Primary Purpose
 
The applications development division uses Scrum as the development methodology for all bespoke software development and is moving towards product oriented cross-functional squads.

Key Accountabilities
  • Work within an Agile project team to design, build and implement Cloud automation solutions
  • Provide input into the product roadmaps
  • Keen to learn and work in areas outside of core skill.
  • Flexible to provide on call support including outside of business hours.
  • Development of high quality, robust software automation solutions that meet business expectations
  • Assist in design and implementation of application environments and tools and platforms
  • Assist in tool and framework selection
  • Collaborate in a team environment to share knowledge and learning
  • Perform code review and analysis
  • Packaging and deployment of component and applications in various test environments, production, and post implementation support.
  • Encourage innovation and foster an environment of continuous improvement
  • Be a mentor and role model to less experienced developers
 
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

The candidate should possess a sound understanding of fundamental web development principles and hosting infrastructure. 
  • 5 years or more experience working or developing with:
  • Scripting or lower level development language,
  • Object oriented or functional paradigm,
  • Linux systems.
  • Cloud infrastructure provider: AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda, ElasticSearch, API Gateway)
  • Deployment automation: CloudFormation/CFNDSL
  • Configuration Management: Ansible
  • Programming languages: Ruby, Groovy, Python, Shell Scripting, Java
  • Build server: Jenkins (not classic job but Pipeline DSL)
  • Development methodologies: Scrum, Test-driven Development, BDD
  • Testing frameworks: Cucumber, RSpec, Serenity, Selenium
  • Source control system: Git
  • Build tools: Maven, Gulp, Rake
  • Web Technologies: Javascript, HTML, CSS, NodeJS, Bower
  • Atlassian tool suite: JIRA/Confluence/Bitbucket
 
Selection Criteria
  • Ability to work in an Agile team to deliver high-quality cloud automation in a responsive manner.
  • Extensive experience working with complex networks, servers and devices.
  • Ability to consistently apply test driven development and behaviour driven development methodologies.
  • Ability to adhere to programming and methodology standards, emphasising maintainability.
  • Ability to write technical design documents.
  • A team player with excellent communication skills, especially when working collaboratively in an Agile team with developers, BA's and testers to agree on User stories, acceptance criteria and automated tests.
  • Ability to train and mentor others in the team to become proficient in Cloud automation.
  • Willingness to accept ownership of tasks and work autonomously as required.
 
 
 
Experience in NSW public sector is highly desirable but not mandatory.
