The Role: 

The Network Engineer will be responsible for managing, monitoring, maintaining and replacing network equipment as required, to ensure ongoing security availability and performance of clients networks 

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Day to day management and support of contemporary, highly distributed research networks, including CISCO and Juniper network infrastructure and Operating Systems (switches, routers, firewalls, IOS), WAN topologies and configuration, routing protocols and encryption.
  • Develop and apply expertise in the specialized field of research network engineering.
  • Researching, designing, developing, testing and installing networking equipment.
  • Using network configuration tools such as CATTools and network monitoring tools such as What's Up and/or Solarwinds.
  • Diagnosing a range of research network issues from a Defence and scientific perspective and implement solutions.
  • Evaluate methods and strategies and assess specifications, standards and materials to e-Research concepts.
  • Create and review change requests for new deployments including expansion of existing sites.
  • Audit and maintain worksheets for Network specific items ensuring Defence capability can be achieved.
