We are currently looking for a Principal Project Manager for an approx. 12 month engagement with a large government department based in Brisbane CBD. The ideal candidate will be an experienced ICT, Business Transformation and Technical Integration Project Manager.

The Role:
As Principal Project Manager, you will project manage the implementation and delivery of large, complex ICT projects, including initiation and project resources through to client acceptance, whilst at all times maintaining a customer focus. You will also undertake a leadership role to drive the project management governance and process methodology across Government, and provide guidance and mentoring to Senior Project Managers and Project Support Officers.

Reporting to the Program Director, HRIS Program your key accountabilities will include:
  • Initiate new projects and deliver high level communication to project sponsors and other key stakeholders ensuring they are briefed on projects objectives, milestones and progress.
  • Scope and manage critical, high profile ICT-enabled business change initiatives, in order to achieve agreed objectives in a timely and efficient manner.
  • A strong technical integration knowledge and understanding.
  • Prepare relevant project documentation to a high standard, to ensure appropriate communication of project scope, objectives, status and deliverables.
  • Establish plans and schedules for internal and external project activities, including financial plans and estimates to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Monitor, manage and control project activities in accordance with agreed plans, including management of financial costs, risks and issues, and ensure that appropriate corrective actions are taken to deliver the project on time and to budget.
  • Work with the Program Director to establish governance arrangements, to ensure decisions are made at an appropriate level.
  • Establish and maintain strong and positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders including cross-agency representatives, consultants and contractors, to ensure project success.
  • Liaise with program Change Liaison Officers and Benefits Officer, to establish change management and benefit realisation strategies with primary stakeholders.
  • Assist agencies to formulate and drive transition and integration activities within their agencies.
  • Work with the Program Delivery Office and DSITI procurement services to source vendor and contract resources in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and standards, and negotiate and manage vendor engagements and contracts to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Maintain own professional development whilst contributing to a learning culture with the aim of achieving best practice project delivery through enhancing the capabilities of other project staff.
  • A minimum of 5 years project delivery for large and complex ICT and Business Transformational Projects is considered the minimum experience required for this role.
  • Qualifications in PRINCE2 are highly desirable. 
  • Demonstrated experience defining and scoping clear project proposals and plans for ICT enabled business change initiatives.
  • Knowledge of the technology integration requirements for ICT lead projects.
  • Be capable of planning and managing the delivery of projects to ensure successful on-time delivery.
