Senior Policy Officer

We are looking for an experienced Public Policy Professional with strong project management skills, who is passionate about making a real difference, to join the newly established Digital Government Team. Working in a multidisciplinary and agile project team, the successful candidate will design and lead projects to implement the NSW Digital Government Strategy.
To be successful, you will have demonstrated success in managing complex projects, strong stakeholder engagement skills and strong analytical and problem solving skills. It is essential that you have high attention to detail as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Primary purpose of the role:
  • Contribute to the effective delivery of projects and undertake effective project management to implement the Digital Government Strategy, and support business unit outcomes, consistent with the divisional and corporate plan.
  • Develop, coordinate and integrate high quality and timely policy analysis and advice on digital government and matters relating to the Digital Government Strategy.
Key accountabilities:
  • Ensure the delivery of outputs to agreed standard and timeframes, including by setting priorities, and monitoring and reporting the progress of own and team commitments.
  • Provide high quality, timely advice, including identifying and assessing significant emerging issues and contentious matters, in specific areas of policy responsibility.
  • Ensure the provision of policy analysis and advice complies with best practice guidelines, integrates relevant input from sources internal and external to the Department, and considers the broader policy and operating environment.
  • Maintain quality control and consistency of agenda papers for relevant governance bodies and working groups, and ensure that work programs are consistent with the Government's reform program.
  • Provide effective and high quality secretariat support to governance groups.
  • Participate in and at times manage project teams, including reviewing, overseeing and coordinating work of officers within the teams.
  • Appraise the performance of team members and provide training and feedback to ensure organisational and personal development objectives are achieved.
  • Contribute at a senior level to the overall management of the business unit.
Key challenges:
  • Dealing with a diverse range of complex matters and conceptual issues, in order to recommend practical solutions, often within limited time frames.
  • Exercising fine judgement in a context of rapidly changing priorities and conflicting perspectives.
  • Liaising and consult effectively with stakeholders, internal and external to government on complex and sensitive issues.
