We are currently looking for a SQL Database administrator for a large government department based in Brisbane CBD. This is a 6 month contract that will be located on premise in Soutbank, but will eventually be relocated to Fortitude Valley. Flexibility with regard to start and finish times will be required.

  • Establish, design and support an enterprise Cloud SQL architecture that provides the required capacity, control and supports the long-term strategic goals for enterprise database technologies
  • Establish database standards for operations, upgrades, migrations and onboarding new applications and/or clients
  • Develop workload migration plan in conjunction with data owners and other technical resources
  • Work with development teams in database design process and make suggestions/recommendations based on data manipulation needs of the application.
  • Work with end users and administrators to implement database architectures that utilize industry best practices
  • Deploy and configure technologies and corresponding software
  • Implement database technology policies, and procedures for maximum systems uptime.
  • Establish appropriate end-user access control levels
  • Perform applications database administration functions including SQL code review, performance analysis, query tuning, database application design, physical data modelling, and developer support
  • Proactively monitor databases servers and respond to any alerts
  • Provide database support in all phases of SDLC
  • Work with team members to come up with solutions in line with group's standards
  • Participate in 24X7 on call rotation schedule for various production support, database maintenance, housekeeping and installs
  • Interface with Systems Administrators and Capacity Planning groups as and when situation demands
  • Ability to quickly diagnose the problem areas and come up with solutions and/or workarounds
  • Evaluation and recommendation of software products in database management arena
  • Should have strong time management skills with willingness and ability to handle multiple projects/initiatives at the same time
  • Self-motivated with strong team, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
  • Setup DR and HA strategy and support routine DR testing
  • Write clear, concise, well organized technical documentation to maintain standards and procedures
  • Provide clear, helpful and considerate instructions to end-users
  • 2+ years of SQL Cloud administration
  • 7+ years of SQL Server administration and other database technologies
  • In-depth experience with Microsoft Azure and other cloud technologies
  • Knowledge of IaaS, SaaS and PaaS
  • SQL Security Administration - including, cloud security models along with data masking, de-identification and encryption methodologies
  • Data storage and backup technologies
